2023-24 Women’s Super League Top Goal Scorers
The Women’s Super League (WSL), also known as the Barclays Women’s Super League (BWSL) for sponsorship reasons, is the top-tier women’s football league in England. It was established in 2010 and is operated by the Football Association (FA), featuring twelve fully professional teams.
The WSL replaced the FA Women’s Premier League National Division as the highest level of women’s football in England. The inaugural season in 2011 featured eight teams, and there was no relegation in the league’s first two seasons.
From 2017-18 onward, the WSL has been a winter league, running from September to May, mirroring its traditional schedule before 2011. From 2014 to 2017-18, the WSL consisted of two divisions – FA WSL 1 and FA WSL 2 – introducing a promotion and relegation system. The second division was renamed the FA Women’s Championship in 2018-19. The WSL’s champion, runner-up, and third-placed team qualify for the UEFA Women’s Champions League the following season. Chelsea currently holds the title for the 2022-23 season, making it their sixth championship win.
The WSL is home to world-class players, including Sam Kerr, Lucy Bronze, and Vivianne Miedema, and boasts some of the best young talents in the world like Ellie Carpenter and Lena Oberdorf. The league has been gaining more and more fans each year, gaining recognition as one of the most popular women’s sports leagues globally, with a worldwide fan base exceeding 500 million.
